Description
Inua is the spirit that animates all things, watched over by Silaup Inua, the master spirit of the cosmos. We are all part of Sila, the original force of the world, our souls encased in a fragile bubble of air (pullaq), holding the breath from our very first cries. This breath is borrowed from Sila and returned upon death, when the pullaq bursts.
Inua is the first release in Silla presents: Inua / Sila is Boss, a double-album experience that highlights longtime throat-singing partners Charlotte Qamaniq and Cynthia Pitsiulak as they bring traditional Inuit throat songs to life. These renditions carry the echoes of ancestors, preserving a tradition that has resonated through generations.
The words contained in the throat singing (qiaqpaarniq) tradition are the words spoken by our distant ancestors. Over time, their meanings have been forgotten, and perhaps that is why their significance remains elusive… They came from the mouths of the ancients.
